Energy Efficiency & Grid Integration of Renewable Energy (EEGIRE II)
EBGIRE II aims to improve the electrical grid management capacity and enhance the readiness of the grid in Bangladesh for the integration of decentralised renewable energy sources—especially solar power. The project works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy uptake across utility, industry, public, and private sectors, and support stable, efficient grid operation through innovations in digitalisation, technical measures, and institutional strengthening.
Five-Axis Transformation via EEGIRE II
Data: Establishes monitoring of grid frequency and voltage fluctuations, analyses grid stability under increasing variable renewable energy input, and assesses the effects of decentralised solar power systems.
Capacity Building / Technical Assistance: Supports distribution utilities and the national grid operator to build technical skills in grid management, integrates digital tools and smart management practices. Also assists with evaluating and implementing innovative technologies or process improvements.
Technology / Machinery: Introduces and tests measures and technologies to enable reliable grid operation with higher shares of solar power, including digitisation of grid components and pilots to integrate decentralised solar power plants.
Finance: While the project is more technical cooperation than investment, it helps create economic and regulatory conditions that reduce risks for investment in decentralised solar and encourage financial uptake by utilities and private actors.
Policy
Works with national government agencies to improve framework conditions—such as regulatory, technical, and economic aspects—for integrating decentralised renewable energy; contributes to shaping policy for grid stability and renewable energy growth.
